| The bestsellers of all time are free things |
Giving things out for free can be
very difficult. Some people don’t just get it when people pay money for something
they are giving out for free. When I browse and see adverts on some websites
offering free scholarship, I say ‘wow they are paying to even give out things
for free!’ Do you know the trouble that the music artists go through to come
out with their songs for free? Listen to their lyrics and you’d know. Those who
give gifts inconvenience themselves because it really cost them.
Giving out things for free is a
platform that many people have not learned to use even though it has the
greatest impact. Jesus gave his gospel out for free and Christianity is
everywhere, and he gave a commandment to his followers (some have chosen not to
obey of course), freely have you received freely shall you give – and always I add.
In our days too, there are products we enjoy for free; TV and radio programmes,
church, police service and so on.
But here is the sidekick, nothing
is really free! Haven’t you heard the biblical quote ‘give and it shall be
given unto you’? People don’t understand why you should give out your knowledge
and products for free because they don’t know inherent power in it;
Firstly, you have an opportunity
to introduce yourself. Most people would not give you chance at all except when
it is free.
Secondly, those who taste it for
free for sometime would become your customers. If what you give out is good,
they’d endorse you and go out and spread news about you that you are good. This
means they didn’t get it for free because they are working for it. Nothing you
see is free.
Thirdly, today you give it out
for free but tomorrow you’d take money. Yes you’d take money because they’d
accept you as a guru and when you charge them they’d pay for it.
Some things we think are for free
Marriage; when somebody gives you
his daughter for free you are so happy as a man. But your joy does not make you
consider that you’d take care of that person for the rest of her life as long
as you are both together. She’d even have children that you the man are to take
all the responsibility. She suffers for nine months in pregnancy but you pay
fees and feed the children till they are 30 and above. When a woman is given to
you the man is it really free?
Preachers; Look at the preachers
you listen to on the television every day, they pay so much just for you to
listen to them for free. In time you become a member of their churches and you
pay them ‘tithe’ for years. Would you say you listen for free?
Comedy: I understand when KSM
started his comedy it was for free, now it’s free no more, people have accepted
him as number one and they are paying.
Music; we don’t buy music CDs
anymore, everybody tries to download it. But we pay for it when we love their
songs and go to their shows and pay the gate fee.
Soccer; you watch it on
television for free. Recently you claim to support a team so you go to a sports
pub to watch Chelsea matches and the pub also pays DSTV and the players get the
money. You also pay the sports community through the advert they show, because
you’d buy the product.
How does giving things free work?
Diffusion; new about you or your
product is able to spread easily. Free things have no inhibitions; because air
is free everyone uses it.
Customers; I believe every
product has a customer. Your chances of getting them are much easier when you
give free gifts. It’s in the human nature to like things that come easy and
free gifts come easy for most people.
Consideration; giving things out
for makes people wish you well often times, they consider you to be kind and
although your product might not be the best they’d say ‘why not, let’s help
him!’
When do you give for free?
Starting a new venture; when
people don’t know about you that is when you have to give some of your products
for free.
Wanting to boost your business;
occasionally give some of your products for free. You’d end up bringing to your
fold new sheep who have not had any dealings with you before.
Next time when you start a new
venture learn to start by giving out for free and when you’ve even made your
mark still give out things for free because when you die the only thing you can
take with you is your good name as someone once said. Please think about what I’ve
